Plant Sales

The Friends of Kings Park organise four native plant sales a year with proceeds applied towards supporting research and special projects in Kings Park and the Botanic Garden.

The next Friends of Kings Park Plant Sale will be held on Sunday 20 May 2012 from 8.30 am till 12.00 noon and will be located off Fraser Avenue (follow the directional signs on Fraser Ave). A map showing the location of the plant sale can be downloaded here.

The Friends will have approximately 11,700 plants (a record number for a May sale) from 300 different species and cultivars for sale.  The plants available for sale will be highlighted by: 40 species of Acacias, 15 species of Banksias and 15 species of Hakeas; an interesting assortment of bird-attracting Grevilleas; and an excellent selection of compact plants from the Hibbertia, Hovea, Hypocalymma and Verticordia genera.  Favourite choices in the Adenanthos, Lechenaultia, Melaleuca, Thomasia and Thryptomene genera will also be available, together with an interesting range of declared rare and priority flora species.

Some features at this sale will be the availability of a number of small compact Eremophilas (Poverty Bushes; 11 species), a range of small Mallee Eucalypts (13 species) and Kings Park-developed Lechenaultia cultivars.

There are over 20 new species on offer by the Friends for the first time including 7 species of Eremophilas and 3 species of Hakeas.

We are also stocking a range of plants that provide food for Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos (particularly Hakeas). Please click here for a list of plants that provide food to these iconic cockatoos.  Please consider planting a few of these plants in your garden.

Most plants will range in price from $3.00 to $13.00. Hybrid kangaroo paws and Scaevola cv. ‘Blue Print’ will be available for $9.00, and Black and Green Kangaroo Paws for $13.00.

Plants will be arranged into specific categories at the sale and Friends and Master Gardeners will on hand at the sale to assist buyers looking for particular plants.

Please note that members of the Friends of Kings Park receive a 20% discount on plant sales and new members joining at the plant sale will also receive this discount. For information about membership and member benefits please click here.

Customers are encouraged to bring their own boxes or bags. The Friends will have Ecobags available for sale as well.  Please note that we also encourage customers to make their purchases by EFTPOS or credit card transactions.

The tables are fully sortable (in MS Excel) by scientific and common name. Plants that are Declared Rare species are listed in red and Priority Flora in green. Plant categories are highlighted by colour shading. The natural distribution of each species is shown under the heading Category/Natural Distribution. A description of the status of rare and priority flora and a map of the State's biogeographical regions and botanical provinces can be found on the Department of Environment and Conservation's Florabase website - links are provided via each plant's scientific name. A Print Friendly version of the plant list is also included in the MS Excel Version.
