The Friends of Kings Park organise four native plant sales a year with proceeds going towards supporting research and special projects in Kings Park and the Botanic Garden.

The final Friends of Kings Park Plant Sale for the year will be held on Sunday 16 November 2014 from 8.30am till 12 noon and will be located at the Exhibition Ground off Fraser Avenue (follow the directional signs on Fraser Ave).  A map showing the location of the plant sale can be downloaded here pdfExhibition Ground Map.pdf585.06 KB.

The Friends will have over 5800 plants available from 270 different species and cultivars.

Released for the first time at this sale will be two new Kings Park cultivars. Selected by the Kings Park Plant Development Team these are the beautiful mauve-flowered Alyogyne 'Little Al' (pictured above right), a low growing cousin of the Alyogyne ' Blue Heeler', and Pimelea ' Blush Solitaire' (pictured below right) which has delicate soft blush pink blooms in spring.

Pimelea Blush Solitaire x website  Ramm BotanicalsSixteen other new species on offer from the Friends for the first time are: Acacia cochlocarpa var. velutinus, Acacia parkerae, Acacia pulviniformis, Daviesia nudiflora, Banksia plumosa, Banksia proteoides, Banksia serratuloides, Banksia tenuis, Daviesia nudiflora, Gastrolobium parvifolium, Gompholobium polyzygum, Grevillea oligomera, Hakea erecta, Scaevola porocarya, Stylidium violaceum, Templetonia neglecta and Thomasia grandiflora.

Another group of plants to consider at this sale will be fragrant fanflowers. To be featured in the forthcoming summer issue of the Friends of Kings Park Magazine 'For People and Plants'. To read the article online, click here. Many WA Scaevolas have attractive scent. These plants can add another dimension to your garden. If you'd like to add more scents to your gardens, some plants that will be available at this sale are Scaevola globulifera, S. porocarya and S. oldfieldii. The latter species when planted near a window can fill a whole room with a sweetly scented aroma of the summer period.

Many of the plants will range in price from $4.00 to $10.00. Hybrid kangaroo paws and Alyogyne 'Little Al' and Pimelea 'Blush Solitaire' will be available for $10.00.

Plants will be arranged into specific categories at the sale and Friends and Master Gardeners will on hand at the sale to assist buyers looking for particular plants. Advice for plantings during summer is available here pdfAdvice for Summer Plantings.pdf66.5 KB

Customers are encouraged to bring their own boxes or bags. The Friends will have Ecobags available for sale as well. Please note that we also encourage customers to make their purchases by EFTPOS or credit card transactions.
